Review of the Voyager WVOS511 Digital Wireless Observation System

The Voyager WVOS511 Digital Wireless Observation System is a wireless rear view camera system that solves the inherent problem of all wireless rear view cameras.
All wireless cameras suffer from interference from other radio signals and this causes poor video quality. The further the distance from the camera to the monitor the worse the video quality gets, to the point where it is useless.

Voyager tries to solve this problem by using technology they call WiSight. The System uses a digital signal that locks the monitor and camera to each other so that no interference from other signals is possible. Voyager claims the signal is good for vehicles 60 feet plus.

Rear View Camera and Monitor

The monitor is a 5.6” LCD color monitor with a 12V power adaptor. The monitor can accept 2 different cameras with on screen options.

The camera has a CMOS sensor with an angle of view of D 117° / H 93° / V 66°. The camera also has 14 infrared LED lights to enable it to see in low light environment. The camera has a microphone so that the driver can hear what is going on behind him.
The system does not provide extra features like parking guidelines, which is a pity.

Wiring and Installation:

Like all wireless rear view cameras the idea is to avoid complicated wiring installation. The monitor plugs into the 12V power in the dash and the camera can be wired into the reverse light to enable auto switch when you select the car into reverse. Obviously no additional wiring is needed between the camera and monitor. This type of system appeals to drivers who are towing a caravan or longer trailer because it simplifies the installation and avoids long wires running from the caravan to the towing vehicle.

The Voyager WVOS511 Digital Wireless Observation System is probably the best wireless rear view camera on the market today. The locked in digital signal delivers a better quality video than any other wireless rear view camera we have tested. Installation is fairly simple and quick. The downside of this back-up camera is the price. You will pay almost 2-3 times more than any other system we have tested, with not any of extra features some of the other units have.
If you are towing a caravan and don’t want to deal with complicated wiring installation and not on a budget you may consider this unit.
If you are looking for a rear view camera for your vehicle for everyday driving there are better and cheaper units for you to have a look at.
